Story
Hi all,
Tragically, my wonderful Uncle Jonty took his own life aged 49 in May 2019 after struggling with depression for several years. Jon should have been celebrating his 50th birthday with his loving family and friends this June, and we still all can’t believe he won’t get to have that joy.
My Dad and I decided to find a challenge to honour his memory and posthumously celebrate his 50th birthday. We will be doing the South Coast Challenge on 31st August 2019, a 100km walk from Eastbourne to Arundel. I've somehow managed to drag my incredible friend Hannah in to doing the walk with us, and we aim to complete it in just over 24 hours. There's absolutely no doubt we will all be in need of a very large G&T when we finish!!
The charity we settled on fundraising for was Bristol MIND, as Jon went to University in Bristol and subsequently lived there for many years with his wife Liz and their 2 children Oliver and Emilia.
For those that don’t know, MIND is an incredible charity that provides support for those struggling with a variety of different mental health problems across the UK. There is a network of 130 ‘local Minds’ which enable the charity to provide help and support directly to those who need it most.
Every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem, a figure I previously was unaware of. This shockingly high statistic proved to us just how important supporting mental health charities is, especially ones that are able to provide specific local help.
As Jon’s family and friends, we really hope you will help us to honour his memory by supporting this cause. The work done by MIND across the UK is vital to supporting people with mental health problems, and raising awareness for them.
Thank you so much in advance for any donations,
Pip, David, Hannah, and all of Jon's family and friends
