Story
The Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival is proud to have, once again, as our official charity the Fishermen’s Mission. Established in 1881 for 133 years the charity has cared for the UK’s fishermen and their families.
Sadly, fishing is the most dangerous, by far, occupation and it is often the staff and volunteers of the Fishermen’s Mission to whom fishing families turn to for advice and help when things go wrong.
As a result of the recent winter storms, the Fishermen’s Mission came to the aid of over 600 fishermen who needed assistance with basic welfare costs such as rent, food and utility bills. For many the storms had prevented them from fishing for three months or more. Between February to April this year the charity spent £320,000 making emergency grants to fishermen who needed help.
This year the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival is seeking to raise a significant amount to help fund the continued work of the Fishermen’s Mission, a charity which receives no government funding.
Thank you,
Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival Team and the Fishermen's Mission
