Story

A team from Ricardo Energy & Environment will be joining in this year's Walk for Waste, scaling the highest peak in England in aid of WasteAid UK.

WasteAid UK is an independent charity, set up by waste management professionals to deliver practical and low-cost waste services in developing countries.

40% of the world's waste is not collected or treated. Open dumping and burning of waste causes many serious health problems and pollutes the environment.  Only 0.3% of international development aid is invested in solid waste management, yet it is crucial to delivering many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

WasteAid UK is working to make an impact by:

  • Partnering with grassroots organisations to help develop cost-effective waste management services
  • Building skills so that people can become successful recycling entrepreneurs, and
  • Raising awareness of the importance of waste management and campaigning for greater change.

1 in 3 people globally do not have a waste management service and have no option but to burn or dump their waste, much of it ending up in the oceans. We share waste management and recycling skills that help people to help themselves from poverty, improve public health, and protect the environment
