We support London's homeless to help find lasting employment

Story

We are proud and excited to have chosen The House of St Barnabas as our 2022 Charity Partner. We will be committed to raising money throughout the year through a number of initiatives, activities and challenges.

UPDATE:  On 10th July, our team completed The National Three Peaks Challenge. 500 snacks consumed, minor sunburn and a heap of memories later - the team completed the challenge in 24 hours! An amazing but tough experience for all.

Thank you all so much for the generous donations which has taken us so close to our target. We have more internal initiatives to get us to our £15,000 goal for The House of St Barnabas before the end of the year.

Massive congrats to the team!

This challenge involves climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) all in under 24 hours! To put this into context, that is 23 miles (37km) total horizontal distance and 3,064m (10,052ft) of vertical ascent. The total driving distance is 462 miles.

Staff that took part: Bas Senior, Chris Hatcher, Dan Rymer, Emma Hull-McCracken, Hannah Williamson, James Paviour, Matthew Taylor, Paul Burnell, Paul Williams, Philippa Higgins, Shannen Griffin and Tom Henderson.

Homeless charity and members' club | The House of St Barnabas (hosb.org.uk)

The House of St Barnabas is a social enterprise and charity that works to support people affected, by homelessness back into long-term employment. Their vision is of a future where lasting good work, a secure home and a supportive network are a reality for those affected by homelessness.

Underpinned by a vibrant members’ club in Soho, the Employment Academy provides on site employment and skills training for people who have experience homelessness.

This is followed by one year of progression support to enable sustained change and impact including mentoring, housing support and in-work progression.

The Employment Academy

In a society where there is so much disconnect, the House of St Barnabas recognises the importance of an environment where people feel connected to each other – and that’s exactly what they provide, with the members’ club and Employment Academy.

Participants gain work experience at reception, the club floor, in the kitchen and in the offices. Here, through 12 weeks of training and support, they build their confidence and have the opportunity to gain City & Guilds qualifications in either Hospitality or Business Administration.

Why The House of St Barnabas exists

Homelessness and unemployment go hand-in-hand: if you don’t have a home, then it follows that it is incredibly difficult to hold down a job. 94% of homeless people are jobless. You’re also much more likely to suffer from life-impacting illnesses: 72% of homeless people are dealing with mental health issues and 56% are living with long-term physical difficulties.

Homelessness is also no respecter of background. It can affect any one of us. Importantly, even those with accommodation are often struggling, especially in London. In-work poverty is increasing, with more people trapped in a cycle of low and insecure pay which means people continue to be at risk of homelessness. The House of St Barnabas exists to help people to prosper in paid employment, enabling them to break their cycle of homelessness and social exclusion.

Please help us achieve our goal of raising £15,000 for this worthy charity.

Thank you in advance,

The Redgrave team
