Story
Started training for this for the 2020 event but the dates changed twice - hoping to complete the run in 2021as its scheduled for September - please help.
Studies repeatedly show that the first 1000 days of life set a large part of the pattern for the development of a child and their parents and impacts their ability to access opportunities throughout life. Home-Start Oldham, Stockport & Tameside (HOST) is a local charity of trained volunteers and expert support helping families with young children through their challenging times during this important phase of development. Home-Start make sure the early years count so that no child’s future is limited. Help is provided in several ways:
- Families struggling with post-natal depression, isolation, physical health problems, bereavement and many other issues receive the support of a trained volunteer peer who will spend around two hours a week in a family’s home supporting them in the ways they need.
- We offer infant feeding peer support to every breastfeeding mum in Tameside and Oldham.
- The charity also supports fathers, raising awareness of the importance of fathers in the perinatal period and understanding how they can contribute.
- Parent and Infant Mental Health (PIMH) work supports early relationship building for families with an under 2, and those expecting a baby, using trained peer volunteers, with a focus on mental health.
