Story
In memory of Steven, we are raising funds for No5 who offer confidential listening to support children and young people and those around them, through their free counselling service for those aged 11-25 living, working or studying in Reading and the RG postcode area.
No5 also run an outreach program which includes counselling sessions in local schools, and their Young Ambassador scheme through which they support and train young people to deliver talks, workshops and events directly to their peers.
Reading is special to us as it was special to Steven. Despite working in Bridgend, Wales Monday-Friday the last 20 years of his life, Steven retained a home and had a loving husband to return to in Reading every weekend. He was born in Northcourt Avenue, a frail baby, but battled to become a loving eldest son, big brother to two siblings, and after battling with his sexuality growing up, finally became a loving husband to Dave for 6 years (after 14 years already spent together).
Steven was a trained Mental Health First Aider at his place of work and a dedicated and loving support to friends as well as colleagues through challenging times. Steven had himself experienced tough challenges in life; he understood personally the impact on mental health and cared deeply about the wellbeing of others. We feel it’s fitting and meaningful then, that proceeds from his belongings and collections will benefit those in need of support and advice in challenging circumstances, in the hope that early intervention may prevent the development of serious difficulties caused by mental ill health.
We hope that you find something on the ebay pages we are using to help you remember Steven with a smile; if you never knew him, thank you so much for your contribution and please know that it is greatly appreciated by Steven’s husband and family.
