Thank you for supporting The Hibbs Lupus Trust.
We’re a group of volunteers on a mission to raise awareness of lupus. We support people affected by lupus to make sure that no one faces lupus alone.
Lupus is a chronic and presently incurable illness of the immune system. Rather than just fighting viruses, bacteria and infection by producing antibodies, your body starts to attack and destroy healthy cells, tissues and organs.
MY STORY
(Stick with me - I’m sorry about the violin in the background!)
I’ve had lupus since I was 12 years old. It’s a complicated, difficult to manage condition that affects my immune system, with no cure. My own cells attack me! When I was diagnosed as a child, my parents and I knew nothing about it. Things have changed now. There’s definitely more information out there today and I’d hope anyone else being diagnosed today has more available to them to help them through it. That’s why raising awareness is important and why I support Hibbs Lupus Trust in doing just that.
For me lupus has come in many forms from aching joints, back ache, fatigue, brittle bones, tiredness from doing very little, anaemia and headaches to name a few. But I’ve a good network of family, friends and health professionals around me to keep me going!
Once again, some of my family and friends are joining me in doing this walk. Even my mother-in-law from Zambia is doing it! 5 miles doesn’t seem a lot for most people, but it’s enough to tire me out on a good day!
Thanks for reading up to here. I’ll stop rambling now!
