On the 8th December 2010, a close family friend, Jessica Gower, died aged 14 years from Osteosarcoma, a form of primary bone cancer. Jess was a happy, friendly, positive person who was full of life and much loved by everyone who knew her. She is greatly missed by her family and friends, below are some of the reasons we continue to raise money in her memory.
- Over one third of primary bone cancer cases are
diagnosed inpatients under the age of 30.
- Osteosarcoma and Ewing’s sarcoma are types of
bone cancer that mainly affect children, teenagers
and young adults. The peak age for these bone
cancers is 15-19 years old.
- Each year in the UK and Ireland around 550 new
cases of primary bone cancer are diagnosed and
around 300 people die from these cancers.
- There has been no improvement in bone cancer
survival rates for over 25 years.
- Research is desperately needed to find new treatment
options for bone cancer patients.
