In February this year, our hearts were torn apart when our 2 year old dog, Romie, suddenly passed away after a mystery illness. Romie’s story and the journey she went on to find a home is an incredible one - she was found on the streets of Romania and was rescued by the amazing charity - Flori’s Friends Rescue.

The Challenge 🚴🏻‍♂️ - I’m aiming to complete an 1800 mile bike ride over the summer in memory of Romie. The 1800 miles represent the distance she travelled from Romania to get to her forever home in Wigan with myself and my fiancée, Shelby. I have no bike riding experience and don’t even have a bike of my own as I’m beginning my training. I’m currently relying on a loan bike from a friend and hoping to buy one as I progress. I’ll be documenting my training and the challenge on my Facebook page so you can follow my journey.

The Charity 🐾 - Flori’s Friends Rescue is a charity who help abused and neglected animals from across the UK and Europe. They work tirelessly to take animals in from the streets or rescue them from cruel kill shelters and provide health care, rehabilitation, training and find a loving new home that each one deserves. 70% of the dogs rescued have been subjected to pain and torture which is why the charity specialise in rehabilitating injured and disabled dogs. 

I am completing this challenge to honour Romie’s memory and the long, difficult journey she faced to find her forever home. Unfortunately, it’s a journey that many animals have to face just to find a home they deserve and a family who love them - they are the lucky ones. I am hoping that by doing this, I will raise awareness and funds to support Floris to save more lives and give these poor, neglected animals a chance of finding happiness, just like they did for Romie. After such a rubbish start in life, Romie really was the happiest little soul, she lived everyday to the full and we are so lucky to have found her. We are so glad that she knew love before she was taken from us way too soon. Forever in our hearts ❤️
