***MARCH 2021 UPDATE***
The Edinburgh Marathon 2020 was postponed to May 2021 as a result of the Covid19 pandemic. I deferred my entry but unfortunately the in person event has been cancelled again. I have decided to run the ‘virtual’ marathon on the 30th of May 2021 rather than deferring another year. Many thanks to all who have donated. 

You’re probably as alarmed reading this as I am writing it, but on the 24th of May 2020 I will be taking on the Edinburgh Marathon.

Several months ago, following a few too many wines, I thought it would be a good idea to sign up and didn’t really take on board how much of a challenge it would be. The next morning I duly got up and started running. I think I managed roughly half a mile before essentially passing out and calling it a day. Since then I have gradually been building up the mileage and basic fitness which I was seriously lacking in. I am absolutely not a natural, but will give it my all in the hopes that I can raise some money for Simpsons Special Care Babies. 

Simpsons Special Care Babies is a phenomenal local charity run entirely by volunteers. From equipment and staff training, to research and parent support, they exist to ensure that all premature or sick babies admitted to the Simpson Neonatal Unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh receive the best possible care. I am fortunate enough to see the immense impact of their work in my job, and really cannot overstate the value of their support.
