Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 1st March I will be running the Vitality Big Half Marathon in London as part of #TeamNature to raise money for The Natural History Museum.

This Museum is a London landmark, housing over 80 million specimens spanning 4.5 billion years of history. This collection is considered to be one of the most important natural history collections in the world, answering questions about the past, present and future of the solar system, the geology of our planet and life on Earth. A sample of this collection is on display for everyone to see - for free! Not to mention the stunning building...!

The Museum supports and conducts groundbreaking scientific research. With the biodiversity crisis in full swing and habitats coming under increasing pressure, documenting life on Earth has never been so important. In 2019 alone, museum scientists - including researchers, curators and scientific associates - have named 412 new species! This highlights just how much is still unknown about the natural world and begs the question: how can we protect what we don't know?

The Museum is also committed to taking effective action to combat humanity's impact on the planet's survival systems. Climate change, biodiversity loss and extinctions, habitat destruction, environmental pollution, deforestation and ocean acidification all flow from unsustainable human activity. Museum research contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in areas such as food security, human health, life on land and below water, climate and environmental change, sustainable and responsible use of natural resources and clean energy.

Having worked at the Library & Archives of the Natural History Museum for five years I know how important our scientific research is and, similarly, how important charitable donations and fundraising are to facilitating that research.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will go towards helping secure a vision of a future where people and the planet thrive.

In the words of Sir David Attenborough: "The future of the natural world, on which we all depend, is in your hands."

Thank you!
