Story
As some of you know I was lucky enough to go to Botswana last Spring volunteering for the amazing charity Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB). During my time in Botswana I was part of a team that coached nearly 3000 children and trained 50 local coaches over two weeks. This had a real effect on me.
I have decided that I want to go back to Africa to once again be
part of a team that can have a life changing impact on children’s lives using Cricket as the vehicle. This time I am off to Uganda between 12 and 27 March.
Most people who know me are aware of my love of Cricket and this trip gives me the opportunity to use my love of cricket to help improve HIV/Aids awareness amongst the young people of Uganda.
During those 2 weeks I will be part of a team of eight coaching cricket while aiming to spread awareness of HIV by incorporating simple messages into our everyday coaching sessions. On each trip CWB aim to reach thousands of children, as well as training adults to become ICC registered coaches.
Uganda is one of Africa’s HIV success stories with a reduction in cases of almost 25% in the last 30 years down to 6.4% of the population. However recent reports suggest that HIV infection rates are increasing again and CWB has an important role to play in spreading the ABC messages across the country.
The last few CWB trips to Uganda have coached over four thousand children in a fortnight and the last trip coached a mere 1400 children on one single day so its going to be full on but rewarding.

To go on this trip I have to raise £750. I will be paying for my own travel, food, etc, so all money raised will go towards equipment and materials, hopefully leaving a lasting impact both to the infrastructure for cricket and to the awareness of HIV in the areas we have visited
