Just a little background into why I'm running for this charity. To say it's close to my heart is nonsense really, without the professional expertise and care my Twin boys Finlay and Felix received at The Princess Anne Maternity Hospital & The Southampton General Hospital I'm pretty certain that I would not have shared & cherished all those special memories you share with your children over the years as parents.
There were many complications at birth for both boys which led to 10 week early labour and some very stressful times. Unfortunately for Finlay he was worst hit by this having the following diagnosed conditions whilst Felix seemed to escape the worst but still being kept on ventilation for month after being discharged :
Category 3 & 1 brain bleed to each side of the brain
Chronic lung disease
Chronic kidney failure
Early heart Problems
Premature
Etc.. The list really does go on
Before all of these were diagnosed, we were in the 11th hour and Finlay still wasn't accepting a blood transfusion which meant as parents we were put on the spot to make a decision on life! One that no one should ever have to make.
Just like that he accepted his final transfusion which meant they could start surgery on him! I was in pure shock and really couldn't believe what an incredible job the doctors, nurses and hospital had done as whole!
From then on in both boys came on leaps and bounds with Finlay having his kidney transplant late 2014 from a live donor... I can now report his consultants are very, very pleased with how's he's doing and to say that he's not smashed any expectations would be ridiculous!
Please please please if you could donate just a small amount of money to help one of the most important and under pressure hospitals in the south! There are so many people in my position who aren't as fortunate, you never know when one day you might need their services.
Thank you
