Story

As some of you may be aware our Uncle Geoff fell ill in October 2015 with Guillain-Barré syndrome. We (David, Chris and Rachael) will be running the Anglesey Half Marathon on the 6th March to raise money for GAIN on behalf of Geoff.

Guillain-Barré is a rare disorder where your body's immune system attacks your nerves which causes progressive paralysis usually beginning in the legs.

Geoff was paralysed from the eyes down and has been in Warrington Intensive Care Unit since he was admitted in October and is still unable to move his body, breath on his own or speak.

Geoff is expected to make very slow progress and it is thought that he will be in Warrington Intensive Care Unit for another year, with a long journey of rehabilitation to follow. This will include learning how to talk and walk again and learning to do normal day to day activities such as feeding himself.

The syndrome is very rare, afflicting around only one person in 100,000 and there is very little support out there for victims and the family of those affected.

We have therefore selected GAIN as our chosen charity who aim to relieve the needs of people suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome, their families and carers in particular by the promotion of research into the causes, prevention and treatment of Guillain-Barre syndrome and increasing the awareness of the syndrome.

Huge amounts of love as always to Susan and Greg & Brad for doing us all proud at
such a tough time and supporting your Dad every step of the way. We love you very much.

We are so grateful for any donations you can make.

About the charity
