Story
My name is Jim Walsh.
When I am not working with Aldi Stores Ireland or spending time with my family, I like to compete in endurance events. The latest and biggest challenge I am taking on is the Wicklow Round.
The Wicklow round is a looped course covering 26 peaks totalling at least 100 km and over 6,000 metres climb inside 24 hours.
I want to complete this challenge for Focus Ireland. Why?
The Wicklow mountains are on my doorstep so when I heard about this challenge the seed was planted. Over a two-year period, I did more and more mountain running and began to run numerous smaller sections of the route. The idea of doing the full round seems like such an adventure and would be the biggest physical challenge that I had ever undertaken.
Finally, over the last year we have all been inspired by front line workers helping those in need. Homelessness is one of the biggest challenges facing the country right now and it is overshadowed by the pandemic.
If, by doing this challenge I can help people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, then it is time very well spent.
I want to raise 20 cents for every meter ran. This is only a small amount when you think about it. If we can get the word out there this could grow to something that would have life changing outcomes for the people supported by Focus Ireland. There are over 100,000 opportunities for people to donate! The thought of every step making a difference will help me keep going when the legs are empty.
