Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Since the second year of my adult training in 2011 at Northumbria University i have been an active member of the Kenya Acorn Project team raising money for the charity.
Kenya Acorn Project (KAP) was established in 1998 by Muriel Armstrong and Mary Kerrigan from the North East of England, with backgrounds in health and education. It was registered as a charity in the UK in July 1999, and as an International NGO in Kenya in October 2002. The Kenya Acorn Project Community Hospital was started in 1999 to focus on the treatment of inpatients and outpatients. This became the hub from which our Health and Education Programmes evolved as a result of local need.
Early partnerships were developed with Seaton Burn Community College, Bristol University Medical Students (HIV and AIDS education) Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) and Northumbria and Bristol Universities. Water and sanitation projects have been funded with support from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and Water for Kids. Brockwell Middle School provided funding for the new Acorn Nursery building. From the early days of KAP, students and staff from schools and universities have travelled out to the project, offering their time and expertise to help develop the projects in their various stages.
To assure the hospital and nursery in Kenya is able to run effectively to accommidate the community we support in Nhdiwa it is vital in the UK we keep fundraising. This year i thought doing something different and a personal challenge would help raise money for the charity. I have decided to carry out an alcohol free 2014. As some may relate to it as a "dry" 2014. I aim to raise as much money for the charity as possible any donations i would be more than grateful. This will be personally challenging and a benefit to all of the community of Nhdiwa to keep their hospital and nursery running for treatments.
