Story

You clicked on the link - Honestly I can't thank you enough.

I am running the London Marathon 2019 in support of the amazing Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) that helps serving and ex-RAF personnel and their families, whenever they are in need. May that be practical assistance, emotional support or expert advice the team are always available to help out. RAFA work tiresomely to bring happiness and comfort in times of extreme loneliness to RAF families when those they love are dedicating their lives to their country, often away from home for many months of the year. And that is the reason I am running 26.2 miles, the most physically demanding challenge I have ever faced, but truly nothing compared to the pain those individuals feel when reaching out to RAFA. I want to support and do all I can to raise funds for this incredible charity. Please dig deep, donate anything you can, and hopefully I can run down the Mall knowing all the tears (there is going to be a lot!) have helped support the great work of RAFA.  Any support really is much appreciated. Thank you.

More About RAFA

RAFA receive no government funding and are entirely dependent on the generosity of crazy people like me to help them to raise funds! The Association exists in the recognition that RAF personnel and their immediate families dedicate their lives to their country, and to ensure that such a sacrifice does not result in suffering, poverty or loneliness.

Whether it’s an injured airman fighting to get back on his feet, a young child missing their parent away on overseas operations, or a World War II veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, RAFA are there to help all generations of RAF Service personnel and their families. Here are some of the ways they have recently helped:

  • Their Storybook Wings project has enabled serving parents to let their children hear their voice at bedtime.
  • They combat loneliness with their befriending service and home visits.
  • They provide respite care breaks in their three Wings Breaks hotels.
  • They help vulnerable veterans or they widows/widowers lead safer lives in their sheltered housing.
  • They have a network of volunteer welfare officers who make thousands of welfare visits and calls each year.

So please dig deep, instead of that Friday Bacon Butty and coffee, or that Dominoes that you didn't really need to order, donate instead!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
