Story
Hughes Syndrome, Also known as Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome or Sticky Blood is an autoimmune condition where the is an increased chance of blood clots forming in veins and arteries.
Blood clots can affect any organ in the body, and as a result are a cause of fatal conditions such as heart attacks, strokes and DVT's. In pregnancy the clotting can cause infertility, recurrent miscarriage, pre-eclampsia and still birth. (www.hughes-syndrome.org)
For myself and my wife, Kate (who was diagnosed with this condition following a DVT in 1999) we felt the full effects of this condition whilst trying to start a family. Over the space of 5 years we suffered 7 miscarriages but were also blessed with 2 beautiful tiny baby girls (born early and low birth weight due to Hughes Syndrome).
For both of the successes Kate and I owe a great deal to the research and advice provided by HSF and specialists in the condition at London and Nottingham hospitals.
