We care for disabled young people to make life work for them & their families

Story

We began our health and fitness journey in 2016 with our own personal goals of losing weight and taking part in a muddy run each. After successfully completing our runs (pretty muddy for Laura and Tough mudder half for Ryan) we decided that we had the running bug and this year we are upping the ante and have decided to jointly take on the challenge of completely a minimum of 6 runs each by December 2017, some will be done together, others will be done individually; plus some runs we may have some friends joining us as well. In addition to raising money for charity we are aiming to get fit and healthy as a family and lose weight. Ryan lost just over 3st through training last year and is hoping to lose another 2st, Laura is aiming to lose 8st this year and we will keep you up to date with our fitness and weight loss goals throughout the year as we train for each run. We decided that we would raise money for just one charity this year across all our events to have the greatest impact for the charity.

We decided to choose Smile as our charity because of the amazing work and support they provide to disabled children and their families. Laura's own sister is disabled and as a child she would have time in a respite centre similar to the ones offered by Smile. This time was invaluable to Laura's sister as it gave her the opportunity to be surrounded by specialist care who could provide a range of activities that would be beyond the means of the family. The time was also crucial for the family as it gave them a chance to have a break and do everyday things that other families do without having to worry so much. Unfortunately The Cherries (the respite centre used by Laura's family) has since been closed after NHS budget cuts and therefore we felt that we wanted to help fundraise for Smile to help keep these valuable centres open.

We have detailed the events we plan to take part in below. Some of these have been booked already, others we will book a bit later in the year and therefore are subject to change. We are self funding these events which means that all of your donations will go to the charity.
