Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Many of you will have a feeling of deja-vous, as you read of another 100km event I have signed up for! To be honest, these events are much more my comfort zone than the London Marathon I ran in April 2016. I just didn't get enough blisters or blackened toe nails over 26.2 miles so needed to up the distance again!
In 2003, an eclectic mix of seven work buddies (plus two support crew) headed from Hampshire to Scotland, to embark on the infamous Three Peaks Challenge, to raise money for the Wessex Cancer Trust, where a dear colleague of ours was receiving treatment.
Three members of the original team have reformed, signing up a couple of new team-mates, to embark on an equally tough challenge in 2017 - hiking 100km up and down the cliff paths of the Isle of Wight, in as near to 24 hours as our now older and creakier bones can manage.
I have chosen to raise money for the Norfolk Hospice on this occasion, as they do such incredible work in my local community. On a wider scale, the entire Hospice Movement has made such rapid advances since its inception in 1967, forever changing the way people with life-limiting conditions are treated.
Three out of every five hospices have suffered a cut or freeze in funding during the last financial year, according to the UK's national charity for hospice care. It warns that the whole future of the hospice movement is under threat.
And so I want to do my bit to help my local hospice ride the storm...
