We work in developing countries to support people with deafblindness

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Richard & Veronique's JustGiving page for the 2021 Sense International Golf Day.

Sense International provides care, therapy, educational, vocational, and advocacy support and are one of the world’s leading international organisations working with deaf- blind people, their families and communities. With your support Sense International transforms lives.

In Kenya, deaf blind children rarely get the support they need.  Many will lead short lonely lives, hidden away by parents who may not know how to support them and are fearful of the reaction of the local community.  This year, Sense International’s Chance to Shine Appeal is establishing sight and hearing tests for 55,000 young children at 40 health facilities in rural Kenya, as well as building four specialist early intervention units for children with deaf blindness, and training 300 volunteers as testers. It will also provide personalised support for 124 children already identified with impairments, enable 248 carers to provide support and therapy to their child at home, and assisting local governments to develop their own action plans.

In India this year, Sense International has set up services ( testing, therapy, education, day care centre ) for children and young adults for children in North Goa.  Your support will help extend this life changing work.  We expect to identify and support 75 children with deaf blindness. Our qualified professionals will provide support via early intervention and testing in hospitals, training in activities of daily living in the day care centre or at home, educating teachers to enable them to work with deaf blind children at their local school or home, providing specialist equipment, and for young adults (14+) vocational training programmes and family business support.

These are just two examples of the many projects we have running in the eight global locations in which Sense International operates. Please visit our website at www.senseinternational.org.uk for further information about our mission and current programmes.

We are targeting 40 players, either in teams, or as individuals. The suggested minimum entry fee is £200 per golfer which can be gift aided ( for individuals)
