The number of people forcibly displaced from their homes is the highest since World War II with millions and millions of people displaced across the word. More than one million refugees or migrants reached Europe by sea in 2016. One million more have arrived in this way in 2017. More than half the refugees around the globe are under the age of 18, even though children make up 31 percent of the world's population and In 2016 alone, according to UNHCR, 75,000 children applied for asylum as "unaccompanied minors. As the crisis continues to grow is it important for charities such as STAR to continue their work across the country.

Student Action for Refugees are a collective of student activists across the country who work with other charity organisations campaigning, volunteering, educate and fundraise to welcome refugees in the UK.
