Story

I became involved with St Francis Home for Animals back in 2001 when I took photographs for the Newquay Voice Newspaper.  I then became a Trustee for the charity in 2013.  Living on the same road as the Centre, I have had the opportunity to experience this amazing facility, that brings hope to hundreds of dogs each year, first hand.  Being local I also help the team when I can.  They have an amazing amount of compassion and give their all to help the dogs every single day, I have seen this with my own eyes and every day I am proud to be a part of this team.

The Clipper Round the World Race 2017/2018 was started by Sir Robin Knox-Johnson in 1996 and has been running for 20 years.  This is a race of 12 Clipper 70ft yachts who embark on one of the biggest sailing challenges open to non-professionals.  I have undergone extensive training in preparation for my experience and I will be on the 'Visit Seattle' yacht which is skippered by the youngest female to have circumnavigated the globe with Clipper, Nikki Henderson, aged just 24 years old.  I will be taking part in 2 legs of this epic journey totally approximately 12,000 nautical miles and I will be at sea for an overwhelming 86 days!

The Asia Pacific Leg 5 (Australia to China) is one of the most testing races of the circumnavigation with teams pushed to their mental and physical limits.  I will be going across the equator under the most varied conditions possible, from tropical heat to plummeting freezing conditions, we will encounter it all.  This will take an amazing 53 days to complete.

Leg 6 is known as the Mighty Pacific Leg and will take us from China to Seattle in the USA.  This will be 33 days of my 86 days at sea and will take us across the International Date Line.

I am doing this to raise money for St Francis Home for Animals.  Whilst nobody doubts that this is an opportunity of a lifetime, it will be extremely challenging, physically and emotionally, and what I will keep in my thoughts through all those challenges is that I am doing this to help the dogs at St Francis.  Every dog that comes into our care, whatever their background, needs St Francis and their amazing team and I simply want to do my bit to help them all.

For anyone who has ever owned and loved a pet, you know how much they can bring to your life, so much devotion and joy and I feel the time is right for me to give a little something back.

Please support me in this challenge and consider donating to my cause. This is my opportunity to give something back to the dogs and our amazing team.  Wish me luck.
