As many of you know, I am privileged to be going to Hajj this year (annual pilgrimage to Mecca).

An important ritual of Hajj is to trim or shave the hair.  While both are permissible, shaving the head carries greater reward. So it goes without saying that I am seriously contemplating the latter.  For those of you who know me well enough, my hair is very precious to me, and as no doubt many of you will agree is absolutely gorgeous :-p.  I have not had my hair cut short in several years, so to shave it is a significant act for me.

While I will be doing this for the religious aspects, having mentioned this to many of you, and based on offers in the past, the general consensus has been … “we would pay for you to shave your head”.  So this got me thinking… why not use one good deed to carry out another.  So, the long and the short of this is that I am using this opportunity to raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart…the United Kingdom Thalassemia Society.
