Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Vasa previa: A condition in which blood vessels within the placenta or the umbilical cord are trapped between the fetus and the opening to the birth canal, a situation that carries a high risk the fetus may die from hemorrhage due to a blood vessel tearing at the time the fetal membranes rupture or during labor and delivery. Another danger is lack of oxygen to the foetus.
Any money I raise will be going to the VASA PREVIA RAISE AWARENESS charity in the hope that more people will be checked for the fatal condition.
I am lucky enough to have a beautiful healthy 5 month old girl who might have not been here if my Vasa Previa condition hadn't been found. Every day I am grateful I have my miracle baby with me.
I was diagnosed late at around 34 weeks and was immediately hospitalised for over 2 weeks until I had Mia by c section at 36 weeks. Usually it can be detected at 20 weeks and you can be admitted to hospital for complete bed rest any time from 28 weeks.
Vasa Previa affects 1 in 2500 pregnancies and if undetected then the survival rate is only 5%. This is why I believe there should be a routine check for this. If detected early enough the survival rate is 100%.
Thousands of healthy babies have lost their lives in the most horrendous way due to Vasa Previa not being detetected. All it takes is a simple internal scan, let's get this done by routine!!
Thanks for taking the time to ready my page. Any donation big or small is highly appreciated xx
