For those of you who know me you will know that my Nan is my absolute hero and my favourite person in the whole wide world! 5 years ago at 86 she was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and she started to lose the independence she has had all her life. By some miracle, she has remembered how to crochet and this has kept her mind going and given her a purpose and she has, since her diagnosis crocheted over 300 blankets!

 I came across the charity Brace by chance at the Tour de France charity event in Bristol City Centre in 2019 and discovered that not only are they a local charity based in Southmead Hospital, but they are one of the only Dementia Charities to solely fund research projects not just locally but world wide. Worryingly, dementia research is still severely underfunded and so it is my mission to raise as much money as possible and get the word out there that more needs to be done. Many people believe that Dementia is just something that happens in old age, but in reality it can happen at any time at any age. Dementia is a cruel disease which destroys lives and needs to be cured as soon as possible, and there are many research projects that are going on to help understand the disease and develop treatments to slow the disease down - but with everything more needs to be done and fast. 

In order to raise money for BRACE, I am running the London Marathon in October, after 2 cancellations,  and would absolutely love if you could pop some pennies in the pot for my Nan and Me - any donation will be hugely appreciated!

** UPDATE **

We sadly lost Nan back in May 2020 to dementia. She was 91 years young, and was independent to the very end - she did it her way and was still crocheting right up until she passed away.

So now it is more important than ever for me to finish this challenge for Nan, and to raise as much money as possible for BRACE, so I am now upping my target to £2,200. Please, if you can any donations would be hugely appreciated!
