Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. For those of you who don't know ( this means I haven't seen you lately & bored you to tears with my running stories ! ) I am taking part in this years London Marathon !!

Yes I am a little bit mad but it's something I have always wanted to do & I have decided to rise to the challenge ! I was lucky enough to get a ballot place and thought that I would raise money for a smaller lesser known charity while I was at it.

I am running  for the children's burns club at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford. The club offers support to young burns survivors and their families to help to come to terms with burn trauma and altered body image. The club organises fun activities including residential camps, days out and workshops which encourage peer support amongst members.

The club has helped our family personally and my daughter in law Laura has written the following .......

Amy suffered 24% burns to her torso, left arm back and neck when she was in her high chair and pulled hot water over herself. Our lives were turned upside down that day and the trauma will live with us forever. We came across the children's burns club during a routine plastic surgery appointment at the St. Andrews centre for burns and plastics at Broomfield hospital. Whilst in the waiting room we met the loveliest lady called Sue who introduced us to the children's burns club , before this we had never met any children or other families that had also been affected by the devastating trauma that a burn injury can cause.

I cannot express to you how much the volunteers from this club mean to us as a family. The volunteers work endlessly to ensure that the children have a chance to take part in many new activities and make friends. They have psychologists on hand to offer their expert advice and support and nothing is ever to much trouble. To see all of the children and young people have the chance to take part and make friends where they can be themselves is a unique experience that we will take away with us for life.

The club runs solely on donations and without these donations we would never have had the chance to be part of the children's burns club which means so much to so many families.
