For those who know me you'll know I started running last year after doing the Couch to 5K app...and after a year of running no more than 5K I've decided to set myself the challenge of running a half marathon?!  

I've never done anything like this before so for me it's a huge challenge, and having still not run further than 11K, it's still really daunting.  

I've decided to raise money for Equation, some of you know that's where I work, and though I've only been here 3 months, I'm incredibly passionate about the cause and the work we do in helping to prevent the causes of domestic abuse, reducing the harm it causes to children, young people and adults, and campaigning to bring forward the day when everyone has equal, healthy relationships, in a society free from domestic abuse, sexual violence and gender inequality.  

You may be lucky enough to never have experienced domestic abuse or violence but the chances are, you know someone who has.  

It still remains a fact that 2 women, every week, are killed by their partner or ex partner, 1 in 10 children are living and will experience domestic abuse in their household and 16-24 year old young women are the most at-risk age group for domestic abuse.  Equation tackle this issue by taking a whole community approach and work with children and young people in schools to aspire to healthy equal relationships, by training our community workers to help reduce the harm caused by domestic abuse and by campaigning to raise awareness of the issue and provide safety information throughout Nottinghamshire.  In addition to this we also support male survivors of abuse with the only Men's Service in Nottinghamshire and this is only a snapshot of the work we do for such a small charity.
