Story

Fifteen months ago it was May 2020, we were in our first lockdown and the Hackney Half Wannabees were running their own version of the postponed Half Marathon and Jonny was cheering them on while in King's College Hospital in virtual solitary confinement undergoing a stem cell transplant. Amidst the fear and anxiety of treatment and Covid we were trying to be so positive that this treatment would give us more precious years together as a family and with our friends.

Heartbreakingly, in September we had to say goodbye to this amazing and gorgeous man, who fought so bravely and courageously, and still with a smile, that I will always be in awe of him.

A year later, on the 26th September, the race is finally back on and I and his friends want to run it for him. We want to run it because we love him, we're proud of him, we miss him and we want to remember him. We're running it in memory of him.

Two weeks later on Oct 9th there is a gig in tribute to Jonny being held at Peckham Levels, it is another initiative by friends to remember Jonny in a way he would have loved, with music, with songs by his favourite band and of course fittingly, in Peckham.

Both of these as well as being important to the people who cared about him are also incredibly important in raising money and awareness. Myeloma is still here, still destructive and still uncurbable.  and we want to stop it. Please help people like Myeloma UK help others who face this disease. Please help them find a cure.

Thank you to my friends and family. Thank you all. x

In October 2019 Jonny, my husband, was suddenly diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma – a relatively unknown blood cancer that we hadn't heard of but now know all too well. Over the past four months Jonny has been amazing and is doing everything he can to fight the disease. Through this we have had incredible support from friends and family which have helped keep us positive.

On the 17th May 2020, myself and up to 21 of these wonderful friends and family will attempt to run the Hackney Half Marathon for Myeloma UK. Only 4 of us have ever ran this distance before.
Everyone asks you to let them know if they can do anything to help, the offers of help and support are incredible but sometimes there just isn't anything. But this is where you can help, in supporting our brilliant friends and family to hit the £5K target for Myeloma UK. Myeloma UK are there with you from the moment you are diagnosed, helping and advising, as well as working to find the best treatments and making them available, to improving patient care and ultimately finding a cure.

The Hackney Half Wannabes are...Justine Dellaway, Robyn Meyers, Nick Koupparis, Sarah Ferrier, Steve Aston, Leanne Jones, Jane Ferguson, Andy Wines, Rob Macfarlane, Anne Johnson, Emma Wines, Belinda Wilson, Hugh Wahla, Lucy Verity, Jo Benham, Matt & Siobhan Greenan, Neil Smith & Claire Parry, Paul Curtis, Lou & Lillie Southwell, Fiona Brealey, Becca Dymock and Jane Ellis....show them some love XX
