We advise, campaign and care to improve lives of everyone with epilepsy.

Story

I met Matt on a football sideline while our children played for the same team mid 2016. My first experience of Epilepsy came when he turned up one day with his face all smashed up and looking a bit sorry for himself. Little did I know that a few weeks later we would have got together and he would turn out to be the love of my life!

For a year after we started to build our life together and although the Epilepsy was in the back of minds we looked forward to Matt getting his driving licence back and leading a happy normal life together. However, that wasn't to be our path....in December 2017 Matt had a seizure one morning after I had left for work, my 2 daughters were in the house with him at the time and all our lives dramatically changed from then on. A mixture of emotions engulfed us all, worry, blame, anger, upset and nobody could explain why? In January 2018 a further 2 seizures occurred and this time I was there to witness.....my first very real experience of Epilepsy! Still now I can't erase the horrific picture from my mind, but have my daughter Caitlin to thank for knowing what to do and staying so calm while my whole world seemed to fall apart. We were all very scared now and lived our lives almost waiting for the 'next time'

But....as yet there hasn't been a next time. Thanks to a great Neurologist, tests and changes to medication we all live with hope that it is under control for now, but realistically knowing it will never go away. I get angry at times and frustrated with this awful condition knowing it could rear its ugly head at any time.

Anyway, 2 years ago Matt did this Charity Cycle Ride and when it popped up on his email this year to register he thought it would be good for both of us to take part after all we have been through together, and to raise money for this great Charity. Somehow I actually agreed and when the papers dropped through the letterbox that was it....no turning back!

So.....my training has started, not too well i might add, lol....with the help from my Company and the Ride to Work Scheme to get myself a bike. Bearing in mind I haven't rode a bike in over 2 years or for any great distance ever! There have been many tears shed already and Matt has been called a few choice names! But together we will do this, and I would really appreciate all of your support by donating as little or as much as you can to a Charity very close to our hearts.
