Story
In April 2017 my Mum was diagnosed with Cancer. A few days following the diagnosis, I stood at the finish line of the Newcastle Way Trail marathon. At times I felt quite emotional watching the runners crossing the finishing line. I can remember thinking that this would be a run which my Mum would love to participate in, although I am not sure she would enjoy the hills, as Mum has participated in a number of trail marathons in Norfolk!
Since Mum was diagnosed, she has had a hysterectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. During this time she has continued to run and participated in the Great North Run in September 2017, followed by the Birmingham Marathon in October.
She is a true inspiration and is very determined that she is going to beat the cancer. She has not let it stop her from living life to the full.
Over a number of years, Mum has raised a large amount of money for a number of charities which are close to her heart. I thought that it was about time that I did something for charity and thought what better way to do it, than to run a marathon which coincides with the anniversary of Mum being diagnosed with cancer.
So I shall be running the Newcastle Way Trail marathon on 14 April 2018. This is not going to be an easy marathon at all. It starts in Stoke On Trent and makes it's way to my home town of Market Drayton, across fields, roads and stiles, oh and hills......lots & lots & lots of hills! The only good point is that it finishes at a pub 200 yards from my house, so it won't be far to stagger home after a few well earned pints.
So please donate what you can and thank you very much for taking the time to read my page.
