Story
Hi. My name is Seamus Brogan. I was diagnosed with terminal
oesophageal cancer in April 2021. I was to commence clinical research trials in Dublin. However, my health deteriorated rapidly and as I was unable to travel, my doctor started chemotherapy treatment in Cork.
Oesophageal cancer is becoming more common. It’s a silent killer and symptoms are often not detected until the cancer is at an advanced stage. The symptoms include difficulty in swallowing food, acid indigestion, heartburn, reflux, frequent and persistent hiccups, burping or belching and unplanned weight loss. In my case, I experienced minimal symptoms and sought prompt medical attention but on diagnosis the cancer was at an advanced stage.
6 months later and after 13 chemotherapy treatments, diet, exercise and a positive attitude my quality of life has improved. Oesophageal Cancer Fund has launched sponsorship events for October 2021. My aim is to walk 50kms per week in October to raise money for the Fund.
I would be very grateful if you can donate, however small, something towards this worthy cause to enable them to continue their good work in medical research and in increasing people’s awareness. Please share this link with your friends.
