Help us fight loneliness this Christmas
We are raising funds for our annual Christmas Lunch Project, which provides a festive meal and gift to over 300 isolated older people on Christmas day. This intergenerational project is organised in collaboration with St Paul’s Boy’s School and the Parkhouse team, and has been running for over 40 years.
We provide deliveries for Westminster residents aged 50 plus, who live alone and are experiencing social isolation. Many of our Christmas Lunch recipients are housebound or have severe mobility problems, meaning that they are unable to visit their families or attend any local events on this special day.
This project is unique, in that the lunches and gifts are delivered to older people’s homes, by St Paul’s Students and their families, on Christmas Day.
'The project gives younger people the opportunity to support isolated older people and see a side of the world that they would never normally see. We always tell our volunteers that the lunch isn't important, it's sitting down with the older person and wishing them Merry Christmas that makes a real difference.'
Paddy Corbett, Volunteer Project Coordinator
The Christmas Lunch Project is very important to Age UK Westminster, as it provides a real lifeline to older Westminster residents who would otherwise spend their Christmas Day alone. Unfortunately this project does not receive any regular funding, which means that we must fundraise every year to ensure that we can keep delivering this valuable service.
