Story
On the 17th June 2021, I will be departing Land’s End on two wheels with the intention of arriving in John O’Groats, after cycling around 960 miles, on the 26th June in order to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Research Fund at the University of Glasgow.
Supporting research into brain tumours has become extremely close to my heart having very sadly lost a loved one in 2020. My incredible uncle, Gordon Fergusson, was diagnosed with a stage four glioblastoma brain tumour in December 2019 and after fighting a hard battle, left us a mere seven months later, leaving a massive gap in a number of people’s lives.
Stage four glioblastoma is the most common high grade cancerous primary brain tumour in adults. It is a malignant tumour that can quickly spread to other parts of the brain and due to its aggressive form, it is difficult to treat and often resistant to treatment.
To date, £2,610 has been raised for The Brain Tumour Research Fund at the University of Glasgow in memory of Gordon Fergusson. This includes £570 raised by my eight-year-old niece upon completion of running a 5k non-stop in 35 minutes and 55 seconds (proud Aunt moment). Recent donations to the fund have enabled two new incubators to be purchased which house a new piece of equipment that helps scientists to track the effects of different drugs and radiotherapy treatments on brain tumour cells. It would be wonderful to be able to contribute another significant amount of funding to a much-needed cause.
Please note, all money raised will go directly to The Brain Tumour Research Fund at the University of Glasgow. All costs associated with the undertaking of the cycling challenge will be self-funded.
Thank you very much for your support. Fingers crossed for a smooth cycle!
