Story
We (McKeown sisters)are running the GNR on 10th September 2018 in memory of our brother in law Mick Mills who sadly died from this terrible disease on 11th June 2018.
Mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive form of cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs or abdomen. Caused by asbestos exposure, mesothelioma has no known cure and has a very poor prognosis. Asbestos is a natural occurring fibre, which was widely used in construction and other industries until the late 1990s. The deadly fibres lie dormant for anything from 15-50 years. In the UK about 2500 people per year are diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Your donation will enable us to raise awareness, fund vital research and improve care and support for people affected by mesothelioma.
MKMRF has funded several medical research programmes, set up the first mesothelioma and tissue database in Europe and funds the first mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist in the North East.
Mick and our sister Roisin received a huge amount of support from MKMRF and we would like to see this service continue for others who need it in the future.
