Story

The TR Foundation Ambassador Challenge is an initiative by the Thomson Reuters Foundation to raise awareness and fundraise for the Trust Women Conference.

As part of this engagement, over the next few weeks, we will work to raise awareness and fundraise for the scholarship scheme to Trust Women, the Foundation’s annual conference. Trust Women is committed to finding real solutions to empower women and is the world’s leading forum for fighting slavery and trafficking.

About TR Foundation

The TR Foundation promotes socio-economic progress and the rule of law worldwide. It acts as an impact multiplier, leveraging the skills, expertise and values of the Thomson Reuters enterprise to run programmes that inform, connect and ultimately empower people around the world.

Key programmes of the Foundation are: Free Legal Assistance, Media Development and Training, Coverage of the World’s Under-Reported Stories, and Trust Women. The Thomson Reuters Foundation also funds the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.

Why is the work of the Foundation important

The work of the Foundation is critical to ensuring we progress towards and promote just, ethical societies. Freedom and human rights are not universal. These are elusive to far too many across the world. Those of us who are privileged to live with these rights and afforded these freedoms have an inherent responsibility to stand up and speak out for the voiceless and nameless in these societies.

Your donations and the Trust Women Conference

I also wanted to share a bit more about the Trust Women Conference and the scholarship scheme, so you know exactly what your donations are going towards:

Trust Women is  the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s annual flagship event. It is committed to finding real solutions to empower women and to fight slavery worldwide. The event brings together global corporations, lawyers, government representatives, and pioneers in the field of women’s rights and anti-slavery. The 2015 annual conference brought together 550 global leaders from 50 countries including Brazil, Australia, China, India, Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland.

The Trust Women Scholarship Programme, which you are donating to, funds leading women’s rights experts from across the world to attend the annual Trust Women conference. In 2015, we received applications from 90 countries and selected Scholars from developing nations with expert knowledge of our conference themes. This year, we will award up to 55 scholarships to applicants from diverse disciplines that will bring unique perspectives and help forge tangible commitments at Trust Women. For global leaders who want to connect and take action, the prestigious Trust Women Scholarship Programme offers access to an influential gathering of NGOs, heads of corporations, lawyers, public servants and philanthropists from around the world.
