Story
Kenya is the second largest and most advanced economy in east Africa, yet more than a third of the population lives below the poverty line.
Women and girls in Kenya do not enjoy the same rights as men and are often denied an education and the right to own land.
We are going to Kenya to help build a much needed support centre for young girls who are subjected to violence, domestic abuse, FGM and child marriage - all factors that prevent them from finishing their education and reaching their full potential. Building the centre will enable local girls to access essential physical, emotional and legal support. This is life changing and will give them confidence to speak out, seek justice and enjoy their right to education in a safe and supportive environment.
We are really excited to go on this trip as sisters and we are raising the funds together with a really challenging 50km trek in the Peak District in July. Our lovely brother tells us this is not our usual Sunday morning walk - we will be walking for the best part of 12 hours with a built in 1800m rise just to stretch our legs a little !
Your sponsorship is invaluable, not only to encourage us to succeed but also to support our charity ActionAid with the incredible work they do worldwide.
We'll keep you posted on our training progress.
