Plunkett's Walk for Plunkett challenge returns for another year and we'd love for you to join us as we attempt to walk 1,000 miles over the 6th to 8th May. Whether you can walk 1, 5 or 35 miles you'll be helping to support communities across the UK

Story

Welcome welcome. Thank you for stopping by my Walk for Plunkett fundraising page.

It's been a little while since I took on a challenge - possibly five years ago I think, when I did the Three Peaks, so it's about time that I pushed myself out of the ol' comfort zone once again and do some good for a good cause.

This year I'm going to be doing #WalkforPlunkett, an initiative that invites everyone and anyone to get out over the 6th to 8th May to walk some miles in aid of the Plunkett Foundation and the invaluable work they do helping hundreds of rural communities.

I've set myself the challenge to walk 26-ish miles between Oakley in Berkshire and Witney in Oxfordshire, taking in four community-owned pubs - all of who have been supported by Plunkett, on Sunday 8th May.

All over the UK communities are coming together to set up and run community-owned businesses. These community businesses come in all different shapes and sizes from shops, pubs, farms, woodlands, bookshops and even distilleries, and much more.

At the heart of every community business is the local community. Community businesses are owned and run by the community, for the community - whether that's providing a much-needed place to come together; to access essential services, to gain work experience or to volunteer, community-owned businesses are helping to bring communities back together and reduce isolation and loneliness.

In so many rural areas, communities are becoming more and more isolated as more local services close and transport links shut down, which is why Plunkett's support is needed now more than ever to empower more communities to take things into their own hands.

Every penny we raise through this challenge will mean Plunkett can continue being there for the communities who need them the most. Together we can help more community-owned businesses come to life, creating stronger, more connected community environments for those living in rural areas.

I know the world is a tricky place at the moment, but whatever you're able to contribute to support the work of Plunkett and encourage me to complete my challenge would be hugely appreciated, so thank you.
