Story
I'm running the Great Manchester Run 10k on 26th September to raise money for RECLAIM, a local organisation who work to empower working-class young people.
I set myself the goal of running a 10k this year after being diagnosed with a chronic health condition in 2020. A mixture of illness and the pandemic knocked my confidence and motivation to get out and exercise, so I set myself this target as a way to get fit again, get out of the house, and to improve my mood. It's going well so far.
The decision to raise money for RECLAIM was an easy one. I've been aware of the excellent work they do for a number of years, and as somebody from a working-class background who has been afforded opportunities denied to many from a similar background - especially those young people who growing up in this time of austerity - it felt like a no-brainer. Please give as generously as you can to support this vital cause.
According to RECLAIM: "We exist to create a society in which being from a working-class background no longer presents barriers to achievement, success, or influence"
- Finding Power, RECLAIM’s flagship leadership development programme supporting young people aged 12-16 from working-class backgrounds to realise their leadership potential and drive powerful change in their local community.
- Power Up, a pioneering campaign leadership programme providing working-class young people aged 16-21 with the skills, insights and connections needed to take their change making ambitions to the next level."
