Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page. Please donate what you can?!

And please enjoy that warm fuzzy glow in yer belly knowing that today YOU DONE A GOOD THING!

I'm honoured and privileged to be in the fundraising team at Barnsley Hospice. I hear and see what the doctors, nurses and caring staff do to help patients and their families in their time of need. All those special little extras that help make all the difference.

Inspiration - There are 100s of stories, moments and everyday care examples I could share with you as to what your donations help happen at the Hospice. Here's one from a big straight talking Barnsley Bloke I had the honour of meeting...

A couple of years ago, David aged 47 a patient at the Hospice, demanded with a passion to speak with someone from fundraising to share his story so it would help raise money "for this amazing place"

David had throat cancer and was referred to the Hospice in October.

"I didn't want to come into a Hospice. A cold, depressing, miserable place where yer just go to die. Anywhere but there! I begrudgingly did and do you know what, within 2 hours they'd only gone n halved my pain! They spoke with me in a way I understood so I knew what was happening and what was to come. I was put at ease and a weight of worry and stress was lifted. They spoke with my family too, who could come n go as they pleased by the way. Even the bloody dog came to see me!! Ha Ha!  I've had a week in here an they built me'strength up. You'll never guess what I'm doing tomorrow Simon?... I'm going back home to spend the weekend with my family!

These lot in here are amazing. There's always someone about when I'm awake. Here for every meal, with a big jug of juice, there not daft, I know they're checking up on me but it feels very nice!  It's an amazing place and I'm surrounded by amazing people. I came in here kicking n screaming not to and feeling like that was it, now I'm going home after a week a new man!!"

As he mentioned, David came in to the Hospice in October in a lot of pain thinking that he'd simply just come in to die. Let me tell you he had another 4 months of life. Spending time at home with his family and time in the Hospice. I remember laughing with him in the lounge area as he was giving the Barnsley FC squad a good telling off during their Christmas visit.

I got to know him and his family well until he died 14th February but he made me promise to share his story so... "hopefully some kind folk will put their hands in their pockets and help the wonderful Hospice help some more people like me"

So in memory of my friend David Tattersall of Monk Bretton and to continue my promise to him I will continue to work hard in the Fundraising Team but also this Summer on Saturday 10th July

Me and my trusted Hospice Orange TUTU are going to conquer the Yorkshire 3 Peaks!

Please give whatever you can... xx
