This year I have decided to take on a different challenge to raise funds for the Good Life Orphanage and its a bigger challenge than ever before.

Part of The Good Life Orphanage is made up of 5 houses, Keogh, Maguire, Kilroe, O'Malley and Flynn. There is also the McKenna Transition House where children learn all about taking care of themselves in preparation for their life outside of the GLO as the majority of children have no extended families to go when they reach 18 years old.  There are now 65 children enjoying life at The Good Life Orphanage and over 100 children have passed through their gates since opening in 2008.

Within each house there are a number of children who are cared for by a house Mama and Auntie, this gives the children a real sense of identity and family. Each house has an annual birthday where the whole GLO come together to celebrate the positive things that have happened within the house. This structure is something that I believe is special to the GLO and something that is worth celebrating.

The GLO also has within it's family 5 children with special needs which is very unusual as in Kenya able bodied children are usually discouraged from mixing with special needs children. These children receive specialist care including an onsite occupational therapist. They have identified a need for a medial outreach programme in the surrounding area to help children who cannot access this type of therapy and are looking for funds to develop this part of the project. 

I intend to take part in 6 ultra marathons (an ultra is any distance over the standard 26.2 mile marathon). Each race will be dedicated to one of the houses at the orphanage. I have chose Ultra Marathons as i am going to have to challenge myself to get my lovely friends to part with their hard earned cash!

The events i have arranged to take part in are

25th Feb Northumberland Coastal Ultra- 35miles

15th April Liverpool to Manchester Ultra- 50 miles

20th May Old County Tops Fell Race- 37miles

1st July Lakeland 110k Ultra- 70 miles

Race 5- TBC

Race 6- TBC

The Good Life Orphanage is a small charity that depends solely on donations and every penny raised goes direct to Kenya keeping these children safe, happy and healthy.
