Story

On the 8th October 2017 the ladies rugby team that we play for, Redingensians Sirens, ran out on to the pitch to play their first ever league game. Every single one of us was a bag of nerves as we knew that the opposing team, Bracknell, were a strong and fierce team. Unfortunately with only a few minutes left on the clock the game took a horrific turn and our number 7, Dani Watts, was tackled in way that would ultimately leave her paralysed from the navel down.

Dani has moved to Stoke Mandeville after several months at John Radcliffe hospital and her strength and determination to fight this is both humbling and inspiring. The future is unclear but Dani is storming through all her physio sessions and there are small signs of improvement. What has been amazing is the amount of support from our amazing club and the rugby community in general which includes the RFU’s Injured Players Foundation (IPF). The IPF have been supporting Dani from the moment it all happened, providing her with financial help so she can concentrate on her recovery.

The IPF support rugby players who have suffered a catastrophic spinal cord or traumatic brain injury which has resulted in permanent disability whilst playing rugby at any level and at any age. Your donation will go a long way to providing life-improving support as well as fundamental research and training to help prevent these sort of injuries in the future.
