Fundraising for Transform Healthcare Cambodia

Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page. We have decided to raise money for Transform Healthcare Cambodia because one of the Smiths Dock residents volunteers for this charity and regularly visits Cambodia with them. Some information about their work is below:
In the 1970s a genocide in Cambodia led to two million people losing their lives. Teachers and doctors were killed or sent to work in the fields. The country was decimated and the health service and education was destroyed. Since that harrowing time, the people of Cambodia have been rebuilding their country. Transform Healthcare Cambodia, a charity set up in the North East, is working with doctors, nurses and other health professionals at The Battambang Referral Hospital in north west Cambodia. The charity works closely with its Cambodian colleagues to identify what support, education and training they need so they can improve services for the one million people served by the hospital. The charity’s volunteers pay for their own fares and accommodation in Cambodia and provide training and support where it is needed. Transform Healthcare Cambodia uses its money to provide transport for volunteers and specialist medical interpreters to enable volunteers to translate their training. They also fund trips for Cambodian colleagues to visit the UK and meet health professionals. Since a team of doctors, nurses and midwives made the first trip in November 2014, over a hundred volunteer health professionals and nursing students have made the trip. Your donation will help this vital work to continue and to help make a brighter future for the people of Cambodia.
