Sophie is running 2km to raise funds for Asylum Link. I've been working from home these past few months and she has been overhearing a lot of my work and wanted to do something to help, too. Here's her reasons for running in her own words...
"My name is Sophie and I'm 5 and three quarters years old. I'm running for Asylum Link because they help people when the prime minister doesn't help them enough. The people's names are asylum seekers and they are people who come from another country because their country wasn't safe, like there was a war or they were in trouble or something like that. They've come here because it's safer. Asylum Link help people by giving them food and all the workers help them and they also sing in choirs.
I think it's really important for you to give money to Asylum Link because it's full of justice and peace."
Asylum Link has continued running throughout lockdown offering casework services over the phone (over 300 sessions in July alone), advocating for people's rights, battling to get people off the streets, spreading accurate information and advice on Covid-19 to clients, delivering food to people shielding or isolating, packaging food for destitute clients, teaching English classes online, keeping a choir going over WhatsApp, offering regular well being calls to people who are more isolated than usual, we've even been organising funerals for people dying in the UK without friends or family around. It's been a full on and rough few months so if you could help out it would be much appreciated.
