Without your help we wouldn’t have been able to acquire the Staffordshire Hoard. In 2009 you helped us raise £3.3 million with £900,000 being public donations. Now we need your help again.
We are delighted that 81 more pieces of the Staffordshire Hoard have been found by archaeologists when working on the site after the field in Hammerwich was ploughed in November 2012. The Treasures Valuation Committee have valued the collection at £57,395 which we need to raise by August 2013. We need your donations to help us meet our target.
As a collective, Birmingham Museums Trust, Birmingham City Council and Stoke on Trent City Council are determined to acquire these additional items to ensure the Hoard remains together as one collection in the region.
The Staffordshire Hoard is a national treasure, it is the largest gold Anglo-Saxon hoard ever found. It sheds light on the Dark Ages which is critical for learning about the history of the Anglo-Saxons. It is key to Mercia’s heritage. The Staffordshire Hoard also creates great interest from afar which boosts the region’s tourist economy.
We need your help more than ever.
Thank you for your support.
If more is raised than is needed for the acquisition of the Hoard or if the campaign is unsuccessful we would like all donations to go towards the development of the Staffordshire Hoard Gallery and the conservation work that is taking place on the current Hoard items. If you would prefer your donation to be returned please indicate this in writing.
Less than a week after the fundraising campaign was launched, the newly-found artefacts from the Staffordshire Hoard have been saved for the nation thanks to the generosity of the jewellers Wartski. For further information please visit www.staffordshirehoard.org.uk/news
