Support my first Triathlon & donate to protect the rainforests around the world #race4therainforests
2 facts:
- On the 29th September I’ll be participating in my first Triathlon, I’m training like never before and I’m super excited about this
- I want to do something for all those rainforest fires around the world, how? Preventing them by protecting areas of rainforest around the world.
Why I care (and you should care too)
- Tropical deforestation (see recent fires in the Amazon, Borneo and Sumatra for example) accounts for up to 15% of net global carbon emissions each year – the same as every car, truck, bus, plane, ship and train on the planet. Safeguarding existing rainforests is one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways an individual can fight climate change
- Every acre saved stores over 100 tonnes of carbon that could otherwise enter the atmosphere.
- The world’s rainforests produce 20% of the planet’s oxygen, stabilise global weather patterns, provide habitat for thousands of endangered species and sustain the livelihoods of millions of indigenous people.

- Purchasing and permanently protecting one acre of rainforest costs an average of 2$ - that means that with 100$ (becoming 400$) you will protect an area equivalent to approx 150 football pitch fields!

The Triathlon
I’ll be participating in my first Olympic triathlon one month before turning 32, I guess is never too late! An olympic Triathlon for those who don’t know is a race where you combined:
- 1.5km open water swimming
- 40km Bike ride
- 10km Run
Why is this so important to me?
- I almost recovered from a shoulder surgery and last year I injured myself resulting in a rotator cuff tear of 25% on my right shoulder - one year ago I could not even swim 50m due to this injury
- I stopped running when I was 18 due to some issues to my knees and restarted a couple of years ago very gradually and not without injuries
I would have never imagined that I would have participated in such an event given my previous conditions but here we are now, training for it and aiming at completing the race in under 3h in the hot and humid Singapore weather!
