We are part of the Catholic Church to proclaim the Gospel in Word & Sacrament

Story

Three years ago I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation  and underwent an ablation at Freeman's hospital Newcastle. I am pleased to report that this was a great success and last year I was discharged from any follow ups.

I am now fit and able to enjoy walking again and frequently enjoy 15-20 mile walks.

I want to celebrate this fitness and support something very close to my heart which is my local church of Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Michael .

This beautiful church is in urgent need of restoration being a grade ii listed building  and we need to raise a lot of money.

The church is one of three Pugin churches in the area (Pugin being the architect). St Mary's Cleator and St Beghs Whitehaven being the other two.

I propose to walk from Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Michael's  in Workington on the old railway line to St Beghs in Whitehaven and then onto St Mary's at Cleator and the back to  Our Lady Star of the Sea and St Michael's calling back into St Beghs which should be approximately 24 miles.

If anyone would like to join me and raise some money for this cause please feel free I would welcome the company.

RCN 234331
The RC Diocese of Lancaster seeks to be the evangelizing presence of the Catholic Church in Lancashire, north the River Ribble, and all of Cumbria. The Charity is governed by a Trust Deed dated 31 July 1934 (as subsequently amended by schemes of the Charity Commission) and is registered by the Charity Commission of England and Wales as charity number 234331. The Diocese of Lancaster was created by the Holy See in 1924; the northern area formerly having been within the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and the southern area having been within the Archdiocese of Liverpool. The Diocese has 87 parishes with regular services are available in 108 churches and chapels and 82 schools throughout the whole of the county of Cumbria and those parts of Lancashire, north of the River Ribble and the west of the Pennines. These communities served by the charity are quite diverse, and include towns/cities in Cumbria such as Barrow, Workington, Carlisle and Whitehaven, the whole of the Lake District. In urban areas, parishes might be just a few square miles in size, whereas in the more rural parts of Cumbria parishes can be 200+ square miles. In Lancashire the coastal resorts of Blackpool and Morecambe fall within our boundaries, as does the city of Preston.
