So as 2019 started I decided I was going to conquer my fears and complete a Tandem Skydive, obviously not the usual one but the highest one possible (15,000ft).

I wanted to do this for many reasons, but mainly to raise money and awareness of Paul's Place based in Liverpool in memory of my good friend Neil "Yozza" Hughes.

Paul’s Place is a specialist FREE Postvention Bereavement counselling service, for those Bereaved by Suicide.

This is a special, unique and essential service, one of its kind in Merseyside.

Suicide bereavement is not like a ‘normal bereavement’, it is so complex, with so many unanswered questions; the whys, the what if’s, the guilt, and often the stigma and shame that can go with suicide.

This charity was actually chosen by Neil's dad Peter, when I asked him If I could do this challenge in memory of Neil.

Neil (usually Yozza to me) was a friend since I can remember.  I got to know him initially from going to watch our one true love - Liverpool FC on a Saturday afternoon.  Our dad's took us to the same pub for many years and Yozza soon became a friend I would always look forward to seeing and sharing our stories of going the game.

I always remember starting senior school on the first day, not knowing anyone at all, Yozza was the only person I knew that was attending the same school as me, I waited and waited for him to arrive, so I could speak to someone I knew.  Obviously he turned up late, but that comfort he was there was such a relieve and nice feeling.

As we grew up in school Yozza and myself made a little fortune (I shall leave that there) but they where such good and fun times together.

We attended the same soccer school's together (ex Liverpool legend Alan A'Court) and would dream of making it to the highest level one day, once those dreams ebbed away, it was back on the terraces where our heart and soul would be driving our team on to glory.

I suppose our highlight came in 2005 when we travelled to Japan for the World Club Championship hoping to watch Liverpool finally conquer the world.  Unfortunately Liverpool failed but they couldn't have done anymore in trying. It was such a wonderful trip with so many stories and experiences, it was living the dream, which so many can only dream about.

You'll Never Walk Alone Yozza

Love You Always
