Story
The effect of COVID-19 is much more than just physical according to the results of a survey reported by the Office of National Statistics. Just over half of adults in Great Britain (53.1%) said it was affecting their well-being and nearly half of adults (46.9%) reported high levels of anxiety.
Mental health and well being is important to every one of us - which is why I am taking part in 'The 2.6 Challenge' and supporting a small mental health charity set up in memory of a friend of mine, Dr Dominic Beer, a psychiatrist, who died in April 2013.
The Beer-Harris Memorial Trust (BHMT) supports projects that promote recovery from mental illness and improved mental health for young adults - including university students and adults suffering from severe mental illness.
The 'coronavirus' lockdown has precipitated the cancellation and postponement of many events that would have raised funds for charities in the UK. 'The 2.6 Challenge' is aiming to help meet the resulting shortfall by inspiring people to create their own athletic activities based around the numbers 2.6 and 26.
I have decided to create a 'personal duathlon' (a run, bike, run event). My aim is to run 2.6km, ride 26km and then run 2.6km (back to back in approx 1hr 30 mins) on Monday 27th April.
Please will you support me, your gift will go to help the Beer Harris Memorial Trust in its vital work of supporting adult mental health and recovery.
