On the 31st March 2018 my Dad, Joe King, passed away following a heart attack. It was a huge shock to the family as Dad was apparently fit and healthy and only 64 years old.

People respond to grief in different ways......for me, after a month of hazy self reflection and numbness, I suddenly felt the compulsion to run. So I dug out some old trainers and hit the road on the 1st May.....

From that moment running has been my therapy and on the 3rd of November, a few pounds lighter and immeasurably healthier (at least physically!), I ran my first Half Marathon. Now I am aiming to challenge myself some more...

On the 31st March 2019, the first anniversary of Dad's passing,  I will attempt to run the Conwy Marathon alongside my brother Joe and future brother in law Luke. The route takes us past so many poignant landmarks and locations, including Mam and Dad's house... So I think I may be the first person ever to complete a full Marathon whilst crying throughout (I will check with Guinness if this qualifies as an official record?).  

This will be my first Marathon run and is something I couldn't have imagined I would ever do 8 months ago!

St Davids Hospice has been there for our family on a couple of occasions in the past and Dad was a supporter of the charity. 

Dad was due to transfer to St Davids from St Asaph but he didn't quite make it that far and passed away that morning. However it was a huge source of comfort for the family to know that there was somewhere that could offer great palliative care in LLandudno.
